Expert Chiropractic Treatment to relieve Herniated Disc Symptoms in Kent, WA
Jex Family Chiropractic has helped residents of Kent, Renton, and other communities in the Seattle metro find relief from painful herniated discs, without back surgery or medication.
What Is a Herniated Disc?
The human spine is comprised of 26 stacked bones called vertebrae. In between each vertebra lies a rubbery pad called a “disc.” These discs absorb shocks and help keep the vertebrae in place.
A herniated disc occurs when the soft, jelly-like insides of the disc leak out through a crack in the disc’s fibrous outer membrane. The internal material presses against the surrounding nerves, causing pain and dysfunction.
Herniated Disc Symptoms
Most bulging discs occur in the lower back, but may also occur in the upper back or neck. Symptoms depend on which disc herniates and how it affects the nerve:
- Arm or leg pain – A herniated disc in the lower back may affect the buttocks, thigh, calf, and parts of the foot. A herniated disc in the neck produces a shooting pain in the shoulder and arm. Coughing or sneezing may be very painful.
- Numbness or tingling –The affected nerve may cause parts of the body to become numb or to tingle.
- Weakness – A herniated disc may result in weak muscles and difficulty in grasping.
Treatment
Medication or surgery may be prescribed to treat a bulging disc. The condition may also be treatable through physical therapy or chiropractic care, eliminating the need for expensive and dangerous surgeries.
Chiropractic Adjustment
Chiropractic adjustments are often very effective in treating a herniated disc. The chiropractor manually applies a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The objective of this procedure, also called “spinal adjustment,” is to improve spinal movement and improve your body’s physical capacity, allowing the slipped disc to heal naturally.
Spinal adjustments help move the prolapsed disc away from the nerve, allowing pain and inflammation to subside, without addictive medications or their side effects.
